Ruth further disclosed that the Foundation with other development Partners launched the Early Warning and Early Response project in four states of the north: Kaduna, Plateau, Taraba, and Zamfara, because historical precedence of the targeted states suggest that they are bedeviled with numerous violent conflicts and therefore requires concerted effort of government, development agencies, and even members of the community themselves to stop these reprehensible actions that keep decimating Nigerians and making several thousands homeless.

She said through a careful maping exercise in selected Local Government Areas with history of communual violent conflicts in Kaduna State, Kajuru LGA, Kujama & Maraban Rido (Chikun LGA) met the project’s selection criterias.

“The current spate of insecurity in Nigeria is devastating and unfortunately has kept increasing with little or no sign of abating. From the south to the far north, Nigeria is faced with several insecurities ravaging the entire the country. The myriad of security threats in the country affects the potential for not just economic development but also human development. One of the perennial security challenges in Nigeria is the issue of violent conflict especially in the northern part of the country.

Photos speak

“It is important to reiterate that violent conflict is often engineered by weak/absent governance, historical animosities, exclusionary politics, contested legitimacy, resource scarcity/competition, external factors, globalized conflicts, and extremist ideologies(Gilpin, 2016).”

She further explained that violent conflict in Nigeria has led to internal displacement, economic stagnation, and most unfortunately loss of lives and properties in all the affected states, said the challenges like insurgency, ethno-religious conflict, kidnapping, etc., have labelled Nigeria as one of the most unsafe and conflict prone countries in the West Africa region.
